THE artful hound photography EXPERIENCE

HERE'S WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT

We'll talk about what you want and what's important to you.
You'll receive a guide on what to wear and how to prepare.
During your session, your dog can simply do things that she or he loves. And I'll help you look your best with natural, easy posing suggestions and using flattering camera lenses and angles.

Everything will be light and easy.

Isn't that the way it should be?

 why choose me?

2. A strong understanding of dog behavior

Your dog will feel comfortable and relaxed, which results in more expressive and candid photos. I have a better understanding of dog behavior compared to most photographers — I’ve specialized in photographing dogs and have worked with hundreds! This is essential when it comes to capturing natural and authentic photos.

4. Specialized equipment

Your dog most likely will want a little 'space' since being around a stranger AND a large camera can be a new experience. My special camera lenses allow me to zoom in to make it look like I was much closer. My lenses are also ‘fast’ — which means I can take amazing pictures in a tiny fraction of a second. This equipment helps me create high-quality photos in all kinds of different lighting conditions.

1. Experience with people and animals

Most photographers specialize in people OR dogs, which you can see by looking at their portfolios. I have years of experience of photographing people AND their dogs, showing the connection. I'll help with flattering poses as well as editing your pictures to make you look your very best, with glowing skin, bright eyes and more. This, combined with extensive education and experience in photographing dogs, allows me to create gorgeous images of both of you.

3. A creative vision

Your photos will be stunning since I have a unique creative vision for each photo-session customized for you and your dog. I understand how to use composition, lighting, and other elements to create truly memorable images.

5. Patience and empathy

Your dog will have the best photo-shoot experience in a relaxed and positive environment. I have the patience and empathy required to work any dog, particularly if your pet is shy, anxious, or easily distracted. This will help both of you feel more comfortable and at ease.

Clyde, who can be reactive at times, quickly let me into 'his pack' and came close to me for many happy pictures.

A TURN-KEY PROCESS FROM START TO FINISH

Hiring a professional photographer is something most people only do a few times during their life. When we work together, you'll always know the next step and how to prepare, if needed. Getting beautiful portraits should be simple and stress-free.

You’ll receive a proof gallery before your ordering session, so you can start thinking about your favorites. Then we’ll get together by Zoom, which makes the ordering process easy for you. You’ll receive lots of great ideas on how to share and display your portraits.

3. ordering

Sessions are relaxed and fun. There’s no need to worry about your dog 'behaving'. Great images can be taken in fractions of a second because I have a fast lens. No commands like ‘sit’ or ‘stay’ are required — your dog’s only job is to

2. session

We’ll do quick call to talk about your dog, what you would like, and things that are important for your session. And if you’d like to schedule a date, we’ll get your session booked. Sessions can usually be scheduled within 2 weeks or so if desired.

Frequently asked questions

Can my dog stay on a leash?

Yes! Most of the dogs in my portfolio galleries WERE on leashes. My professional editing skills give me the ability to remove distracting background objects and leashes where it makes sense.

does my dog need to know commands like 'sit' or 'stay'?

No commands needed — dogs exploring and spending time with you make great portraits! Your dog can simply be a dog.

Can harnesses or gentle leaders be edited out?

Editing software does have limitations. Bulky harnesses hide so much of the dog’s chest that it’s difficult to accurately rebuild those pixels during the editing process. Gentle leaders can leave shadows or pull on the dog’s skin, so those are also a challenge to remove. If your dog normally wears one of these for walks, I recommend using it while walking to our location, but also bringing a flat collar to use for the actual shoot.

What if it’s raining or very windy?

If the weather is less than ideal, we can definitely reschedule. We may even decide on the day of your session a few hours before. Your  fee simply transfers over to our new session date.

what if my dog is reactive?

We''ll choose a location that suites his or her temperament. I have a few out-of-the-way locations where there won’t be many dogs or people. Another good option is to have your session on a weekday which minimizes the possibility of others around.

are gift certificates available?

Yes — click on the picture below for details.

how quickly can we do a session?

Time is critical sometimes. I almost always can do a session within a few days when needed. Give me a call if your session is time-sensitive. My cell phone number is on the Contact page. Click the picture above to head there.

Your dog and you deserve this experience!

Sessions are filled with laughter and fun, just like everything should be with dogs. I've worked with all kinds of dogs — reactive ones, shy ones, high energy ones, deaf ones, blind ones, physically-challenged ones, and more. My favorite saying is "Dogs are simply THE BEST." Each and every one is such an amazing creature.
